MicroRNA (miRNA) are small, single-stranded, non-coding RNA molecules containing 21 to 23 nucleotides. MicroRNAs resemble the small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) of the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, except that microRNAs derive from regions of RNA transcripts that fold back on themselves to form short hairpins, whereas siRNAs derive from longer regions of double-stranded RNA. In cells of humans and other mammals, microRNAs silence gene expression primarily by destabilizing the mRNA whereas siRNAs cleaving the mRNA.

BiCell Scientific’s microRNA mimic (agomir) synthesis and validation service provides ready-to-use single-strand mature microRNA molecules for gene silencing experiments both in vitro and in vivo.

BiCell Scientific’s in vitro grade microRNA mimic synthesis incorporates 2′-O-Methyl (2′-OMe) modification to the nucleotides of the mature microRNA, which can significantly enhance the resistance of microRNA to degradation by Ribonuclease H. In vitro transfection of microRNA mimic is recommended using BiCellFectamax Transfection Reagent.

BiCell Scientific’s in vivo grade microRNA mimic synthesis not only incorporates 2′-O-Methyl (2′-OMe) modification to the mature microRNA, but also conjugates cholesterol to its 3′ end, which can significantly enhance the delivery of microRNA to various extrahepatic organs such as tumors, placenta, muscles, heart and lung. In vivo transfection of microRNA mimic is recommended using BiCellFectamaxVivo Transfection Reagent.
