The eye is a complex sensory organ. The wall of the eye consists of three concentric layers: the retina, the inner neural layer; the uvea, the middle vascular layer; and the corneosclera, the outer epithelial layer.

The dorsal root ganglion (or spinal ganglion) is a cluster of sensory neurons in the dorsal root of the spinal nerve. The axons of dorsal root ganglion neurons relay sensory information into the central nervous system (i.e. the spinal cord and the brain).
